Growth Energy applauded a Senate vote advancing legislation that would permanently allow the year-round, nationwide sale of E15, a fuel blend containing 15% ethanol.

The E15 provision is part of the larger Farm Bill and now moves to the full Senate. E15 sells for an average of 30 cents less per gallon than regular fuel, according to Growth Energy.

E15 has been approved for use in all cars made in 2001 and newer, representing more than 96% of vehicles on the road today. The fuel is currently available at more than 5,100 gas stations in 35 states.

E15 has remained available during the summer since 2019 through a series of regulatory and short-term measures. Growth Energy said a permanent policy would provide the certainty needed to expand consumer access to the fuel.

Legislation allowing year-round E15 sales passed the House in May. The Senate provision would provide drivers with access to E15 throughout the year while supporting demand for U.S.-grown ethanol.
