The Petroleum Technology Research Centre and Oil India Ltd. have signed a collaboration framework to advance research and technology development in carbon management, geothermal energy and other clean energy initiatives.
The agreement was signed June 10 during the Global Energy Show 2026 in Calgary. It is intended to strengthen cooperation between Canada and India on energy transition and sustainability while fostering research and business opportunities between the two countries.
PTRC is a Saskatchewan-based not-for-profit energy research organization. Oil India Ltd., a Maharatna central public sector enterprise under India's Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, joined the partnership along with mc2+, a startup platform operating under the ministry.
The signing ceremony was attended by Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe, the High Commissioner of India to Canada, the chief executive officer of PTRC, the chairman and managing director of Oil India and other senior officials.
Under the framework, the organizations will collaborate on technologies for carbon capture, utilization and storage, including permanent carbon dioxide storage through geological sequestration and mineralization.
The partnership also will focus on enhanced oil recovery methods designed to reduce the environmental impact and energy use associated with oil and gas production.
Additional areas of cooperation include identifying business opportunities through each organization's industry networks in Canada and India, evaluating potential geothermal energy projects and conducting joint research through PTRC's Energy Innovation Hub on subsurface energy production and underground energy storage.
