The American Soybean Association welcomed the California Air Resources Board's release of updated implementation guidance for the Low Carbon Fuel Standard Sustainability Guardrails, calling it an important step toward providing greater regulatory certainty for soybean farmers and the renewable fuels industry.
According to the association, the revised guidance provides additional clarity for implementing the sustainability requirements under the LCFS, helping support continued participation in California's low carbon fuels market.
The updated guidance addresses several implementation questions raised by the American Soybean Association through the Biomass-Based Diesel Initiative and other stakeholders. It confirms that fuel producers can demonstrate compliance through supply chain documentation and mass balance accounting rather than tracing soybeans back to individual fields.
ASA said the approach offers a more practical path to compliance while maintaining the sustainability standards established under the LCFS.
The organization said the updated guidance provides clearer rules for farmers and the biofuels supply chain, helping soybean producers continue supplying feedstock to the renewable fuels market while supporting investment in low carbon fuel production.
