A new survey conducted by Morning Consult for the Renewable Fuels Association shows strong voter support for expanding access to E15 fuel and allowing year-round sales nationwide.
The survey found that 75% of registered voters support making the lower-cost E15 blend more widely available, while more than 70% support federal legislation allowing year-round E15 sales. Only 11% of respondents opposed expanding E15 availability and approving year-round sales.
Support for E15 was strong among voters from both major political parties. The survey showed 75% of Republicans and 77% of Democrats support expanding E15 availability. Year-round E15 legislation received support from 73% of voters in both parties.
"The message from voters is unmistakable: Americans want lower-cost options at the pump, and they see E15 as part of the solution,” said RFA President and CEO Geoff Cooper. “The Senate has a clear opportunity to deliver what voters want by making E15 available year-round, nationwide. The House has already passed year-round E15 legislation, and President Trump has repeatedly called on Congress to make this a priority. Now, it’s time to finish the job of tearing down outdated regulatory barriers and giving families access to a lower-cost, cleaner-burning fuel option when they need it most.”
The survey also found support for other higher ethanol blends. More than two-thirds of respondents said it is important for the federal government to encourage the production and sale of flex-fuel vehicles. Additionally, 57% of voters said they would consider purchasing a flex-fuel vehicle as their next vehicle, compared with 43% who said they would consider an electric vehicle.
Morning Consult conducted the poll for the Renewable Fuels Association from June 23-25 among 2,039 registered voters. The survey has a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
