The Nebraska Ethanol Board joined Jim Pillen in recognizing May as Renewable Fuels Month, highlighting the economic and consumer benefits tied to the state’s ethanol industry.
Nebraska’s 24 ethanol plants produce more than 2 billion gallons of renewable fuel each year and contribute more than $6 billion annually to the state economy, according to the Nebraska Ethanol Board. The industry directly supports approximately 1,800 jobs across the state, with average salaries approaching $80,000.
State officials and industry leaders said the ethanol sector continues to play a significant role in supporting rural communities while creating employment opportunities tied to agriculture and biofuels production.
The board also emphasized ethanol’s impact on fuel costs for consumers. According to the organization, ethanol lowers gasoline prices by an average of 77 cents per gallon and provides more than $750 in annual savings for the average U.S. household. The board noted ethanol can also improve vehicle performance while reducing emissions.
Ben Rhodes said the Renewable Fuels Month proclamation recognizes the farmers, ethanol producers and workers who support Nebraska’s position as a national leader in ethanol production. He also noted continued support from state and federal lawmakers who advocate for the ethanol industry.
The board said it will continue promoting ethanol and renewable fuels throughout the year.
The Renewable Fuels Month effort also includes participation from Fueled by Nebraska, a coalition of Nebraska biofuels organizations, along with the Nebraska Soybean Board and the Nebraska Sorghum Board.
