Greenergy, a European producer of waste‑based biodiesel, has secured a ten‑year extension of its lease with the Port of Amsterdam, reinforcing its long‑term presence and strategic commitment to sustainable fuel production in the Netherlands.
Since acquiring the Amsterdam facility in 2018, Greenergy has invested substantially in modernizing the plant to process increasingly diverse waste oils. A key upgrade completed in 2024 boosted production capacity by roughly 25%, broadening the facility’s feedstock range and enabling it to meet rising demand for renewable fuels across Europe.
The timing of the lease extension aligns with supportive energy policy developments in the Netherlands. The Dutch government has outlined plans to progressively raise its official biofuel blending mandates over the next five years, creating a predictable and growing market for waste‑based biodiesel.
Adam Traeger, Greenergy’s CEO, framed the lease extension as more than a continuation of operations—calling it a demonstration of confidence in the Netherlands' regulatory clarity and its renewable energy trajectory. He emphasized that, “where we see the necessary policy certainty, we are prepared to invest.”
Port of Amsterdam CEO Koen Overtoom also welcomed the renewal, viewing it as a milestone in the port’s ambition to become Europe’s premier hub for renewable fuels. He noted that the agreement solidifies their partnership in reducing CO₂ emissions and bolstering the port’s infrastructure capabilities for sustainable energy logistics.
