In a major move to expand access to biofuels, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig has announced record investments through the Iowa Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Program (RFIP). The program's board approved 126 projects across 61 counties, providing nearly $6.35 million in funding for new and upgraded E15, E85, and biodiesel infrastructure at gas stations statewide. These efforts aim to increase availability of cost-effective, cleaner-burning homegrown biofuels for Iowa drivers.

The latest awards include 88 cost-share grants totaling nearly $4.5 million for ethanol infrastructure—a record for one quarter—and 38 biodiesel grants amounting to over $1.8 million. These investments are part of a continued push to offer higher ethanol and biodiesel blends, which are designed to help drivers save money while reducing carbon emissions.

“We’re seeing unprecedented momentum in Iowa’s renewable fuels sector,” said Secretary Naig. “With record ethanol production, growing consumption of biodiesel, and now significant investment in fueling infrastructure, we’re positioning Iowa as a leader in renewable energy. Expanding biofuels access not only supports rural jobs and enhances energy security but also offers real savings for consumers."

This announcement comes as part of Iowa’s broader efforts to meet the requirements of the E15 Access Standard, which mandates that most fuel retailers offer E15 by January 1, 2026. With significant cost-share assistance available, fuel retailers are encouraged to take advantage of state and federal incentives to upgrade their infrastructure for ethanol and biodiesel.

Since its inception, the RFIP has facilitated over $88 million in state investments, which have been matched by over $260 million from private industry. These investments continue to strengthen Iowa’s position as a biofuel leader and provide long-term benefits for farmers, fuel retailers, and consumers alike.
